It's the Science Fair, and the second grade is all over it! Some kids are making man-eating robots. Some kids are holding their breath for a very, very long time. Some kids are doing interesting things with vacuum cleaners. The theme, obviously, is global warming. But what should Ivy and Bean do? Something involving explosions? Or ropes? Something with ice cubes? Or maybe ... maybe something different.

When three children endure separate climate change disasters--a wildfire in the California woods, a close encounter with a hungry polar bear in Canada, and a massive hurricane in Florida--they emerge from their experiences committed to changing the world.

Lola and her twenty-nine classmates do not understand the words to a traditional song they are meant to sing at the upcoming Winter Concert so they make up their own silly words, and when Lola's mother and Grampa get involved, they all learn not only the words to the song, but something about global warming.

"In a future world ravaged by global warming, people have lost the ability to dream, and the dreamlessness has led to widespread madness.
