Milton Public Library in Milton, VT is seeking a Children’s librarian. This person would join a dynamic and experienced library community that includes a new Director and a highly skilled, long term, library services team. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
The Children’s librarian is responsible for planning, developing, and providing library services to children and families; performs professional duties requiring extensive knowledge of library operations; works with the Director to prepare goals and objectives for youth services; develops budgets and grant requests for youth services; plans, conducts, and oversees programming for youth ages 0 to 12; performs collection development and serves as a specialist in children’s literature; plans and oversees outreach services to area day cares, pre-schools, K-12 schools, afterschool programs, camps, and other community groups. The Children’s librarian supervises library assistants, teen volunteers, the teen librarian, and the summer library aide.
The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptable, and possesses excellent communication skills. Project management skills to plan and implement programs for children of all ages is desired. Strong technology skills are beneficial, plus an ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others. The ideal candidate would create and maintain a welcoming environment and have demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with staff, volunteers, and community members.
Qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program, or an equivalent in education and experience, as well as three years’ experience in library services for youth.
