Teen Space: Make a Zine (or Harry Potter Coat of Arms)
Tell your story in a zine or a coat of arms. Michelle demonstrates the project in this week’s Teen Space online program.
We’re posting a new episode of Teen Space on Facebook and YouTube at 3 p.m. Mondays this summer, June 22 through August 10, as part of our Teen Summer Reading Program.
Young adults age 12 through 18 may call the library at 802-893-4644, to request the project supplies for curbside pickup. They’re available first come first served, thought August 31.
Check-off the projects you complete on the Teen Summer Reading Activity Log, available for download from our website or for curbside pickup. Must register online for the teen summer reading program at https://miltonlibrary.wpengine.com/imagine-your-story-summer-reading/.
Choose a minimum of three crafts listed below, and return Teen Summer Reading Activity Sheet (available at link above) by email at firstname.lastname@example.org (scan or photo) or in our book drop near the back door of the library by August 31. You will be entered into a drawing to win one of two $50 debit cards. More opportunities to win prizes are listed on the Teen Summer Reading Activity sheet. The drawing will be held September 1, and winners will be notified by telephone.
June 22 Make a Zine (or Harry Potter Coat of Arms) – Make your own Zine or “mini magazine” that can be about anything you’d like to to be. What is a Coat of Arms? It is an emblem or a shield depicting the motto of a person or organization. Our topic for the night will be YOU. Using symbols, you will be able to create a “story” that will tell others a little about yourself.
June 29 Dragon Cuffs – Make dragon cuffs to wear using fingerless gloves and flower petals to look like scales. Also, there will be an introduction to Black-Out Poetry with a future date for sharing either your very own Black-Out Poem or another poem penned by you.
July 6 Fantasy Lanterns – Make a lantern using silhouettes of your favorite fantasy character (dragon, mermaid, fairy, unicorn) with a glass jar, tissue paper, card stock, a battery operated candle and white glue. Decorate the top of your lantern with items that coordinate with the character you choose.
July 13 Black Out Poetry – Join us for a night of Black-Out Poetry and other poems. We look forward to hearing what you have composed.
July 20 Dragon Masks – We will make a dragon mask using poster board. Templates provided or created your own design.
July 27 Pebble Art – We will create our own visual expression using pebbles collected from a nearby beach.
August 3 Wall Pockets – Using a pair of old jeans or an old shirt and an embroidery hoop, we will make wall pockets. Hung on the wall, the can be used for decoration or for organizing desk top supplies. A pair of old jeans required.
August 10 Decorated T-Shirts – Using permanent markers and rubbing alcohol, we will make our own creative designer t-shirt. A clean white t-shirt required.
