Friends of the Library
Friends of Milton Public Library (Friends) is a volunteer, nonprofit group, organized for charitable and educational purposes. All donations to the Friends are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
The Friends’ mission is to raise funds for projects, facilities, and equipment that is beyond the scope of the town budget for the library; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library; and to aid the Library Board of Trustees and the library staff in their efforts to make Milton Public Library a vital community resource.
Membership is open to anyone interested in helping the library. There are no dues required at this time. To become a member, email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Friends are governed by an executive board consisting of four elected officials: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The term of office is three years, except that any officer shall serve until their successor is found. Officers may be reelected. In the event of a vacancy in the office of president, the vice president shall assume the office.
Shelly Hitchcox, president
Annie Noel, vice president
Janis Lefebvre, secretary
Anne Henderson, treasurer
According to the group’s bylaws, there shall be a minimum of one meeting a year, with the annual meeting held in August. Regular business meetings may be called as needed. Five members shall constitute a quorum. Notice of meetings will be posted at the library, on the library’s website, and on the library’s Facebook page. Meetings are open to Friends members.
All proceeds benefit Milton Public Library.
The Friends hold an ongoing book sale in the library, featuring donated items, including books, DVDs, and audiobooks. The Friends also maintain a section in the book sale for free trading of magazines. Help yourself!
The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree is one way in which the Friends show appreciation for donations. For gifts of $100 – $249, donors may have a personal or business name inscribed on a small leaf. For gifts of $250 or more, donors may have a name inscribed on a large leaf. Please contact the library for more information.
Place your purchased raffle tickets in the container for the gift basket(s) you would like to win. Donated baskets include a book and other items. This popular event is held each year beginning in October, and culminating with the raffle drawings on the first Saturday in December.
The Friends host a bake sale at the library during Election Day in November and March.
The Friends host a chili cook-off in the library, as part of Milton’s Winter Festival each February.
Ice Cream Social
Friends of Milton Public Library serve ice cream at the Milton Recreation Department’s Milton Area Community Band summer concert in Bombardier Park in July.
