Summer reading programs are designed to encourage youth to keep reading during summer vacation, preventing what’s come to be called the “summer slide,” according to the Collaborative Summer Reading Program. For many families, the public library is the only community space available during the summer months where they can access free educational and cultural enrichment activities and programs.
While Milton Public Library’s building is closed to the public due to COVID19, we’ve planned online and at home summer reading activities for all ages. You can register online, then download and print reading logs, activity forms, and BINGO sheets. You may also request them for curbside pickup.
Everyone is eligible for prizes, generously provided by the Friends of Milton Public Library.
Summer Reading BINGO
Once you get BINGO, you’re eligible for our monthly drawing. Mail, email (a scan or photo), or deliver to our book drop behind the library your BINGO card. You must be 18 or older, and have a Milton Public Library Card or a Home Card to participate. The Friends of Milton Public Library is generously providing the prizes. We will notify winners by telephone.
- June’s prize is a $25 gift card.
- July’s prize is a $50 gift certificate to Jeff’s Maine Seafood in St. Albans. No expiration date.
- August’s prize is a $200 gift certificate toward an overnight stay at Shore Acres Inn and Restaurant in North Hero. Good through October 2023.
Children Birth to Age 3
Receive a free book for your child by completing early literacy activities on our reading and activity log. There is a different sheet for June, July, & August, available for download from our website, or by request for curbside pickup.
For Ages 4 to 11
Put a check mark in the circle on back each time you complete an activity or read a book. Children may read alone or be read to. Return the activity sheet by August 31 to receive a free book and a goodie bag. You may put this form in our book drop, mail it, or email a scan or photo to email@example.com. We will call you when your book and goodie bag are ready for pickup.
Teen Summer Reading
Put a check next to a minimum of three activities you complete from all the options listed, and then return the sheet by email (scan or photo) or in our book drop near the back door of the library by August 31. For each check mark (yes, you may have more than three), you will be entered into a drawing to win one of two $50 debit cards. The drawing will be held September 1, and winners will be notified by telephone.
We’ve put together take-away crafts for you and your family to make at home, as part of our virtual summer reading program. Bags with supplies for each craft are in bins labeled by age group, outside the back door of the library. Learn more here: Summer Reading Take-Away Crafts
