Fly fishing guide and instructor John Conrad will hold a fly tying class from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Milton Public Library. Conrad works at The Fly Rod Shop in Stowe, Vermont. Conrad plans to cover:
- Tools. Discussion and Demonstration
- Hooks: Styles. Parts of and how used to proportion flies. Hooking leverage.
- Threads: Types. When to use.
- Materials: In general: natural and synthetic.
- Thread Management: How to control with bobbin. Starting on hook. Movement along shank. Whip finish. etc.
- Fly #1: San Juan Worm
- Fly #2: Wooly Bugger
- Fly #3: Dubbed Body Soft Hackle
- Wrapping material.
- Wrapping hackle.
Cost of the class is $25 per person, which covers all materials. Call the library at 802-893-4644 to register.
International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4)
Want to know more about fly fishing? Already an enthusiast? Then you might enjoy the Vermont debut of the International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4) on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. It will be held at the McCarthy Arts Center, 18 Campus Rd., in Colchester, on the campus of St. Michael’s College.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the films begin at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $10, and at the door for $15. All proceeds will support Green Mountain Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) and their work with injured and disabled military service personnel and disabled veterans in the greater Burlington area.
The evening will include fly tying demonstrations, special guest speakers, a raffle, and the opportunity to learn more about the work of PHWFF in Vermont.
The International Fly Fishing Film Festival Tour (IF4) consists of short and feature length films produced by professional filmmakers from all corners of the globe, showcasing the passion, lifestyle and culture of fly fishing.
